“I teach a course entitled
“Techniques of the Masters” for the Carnegie Museum of Art.
I have impersonated Degas and Van Gogh among others and their work has
inspired and continues to inform my efforts. I have taken students to
the Pittsburgh Ballet Theater School to draw and pulled ballet dancers
into the studio for pastel sessions. I forced myself to paint thickly
with a knife using a palette from the south of France. Hence the pastels
of dancers and the thickly-painted still lifes.” |
